Jon Lomberg is known and admired throughout the world for his artistic contributions to the field of astronomy. As a recipient of the prestigious Klumpke-Roberts Award, Mr. Lomberg is internationally known for his print, digital, exhibit, computer graphic and film and television designs. He has served as a project director, visual consultant, principal artistic collaborator and illustrator for countless companies, agencies and organizations, which include NASA, The Planetary Society, and Gemini and Keck Observatories.

Notably, Mr. Lomberg was the principal artistic collaborator for the late Dr. Carl Sagan, world-renowned astronomer and co-founder of The Planetary Society. Mr. Lomberg served as Sagan’s primary illustrator and Chief Artist for his television series, COSMOS. Mr. Lomberg’s work on COSMOS earned him a Prime Time EMMY Award for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Creative Technical Crafts” in 1981.

Mr. Lomberg also designed the cover of the Voyager Interstellar Records, which are two phonograph records currently sailing in space aboard the Voyager missions. The golden records contains 115 images, musical selections and compositions, spoken greetings, printed messages and the sounds of Earth. The Voyager Records were designed as a gift from humanity to the cosmos and are expected to last a thousand million years.

Mr. Lomberg also served as the Project Director for the Visions of Mars DVD, which is presently sitting on the surface of Mars via the Phoenix Mars Lander. Produced by The Planetary Society, the Visions of Mars DVD carries the voices of visionaries, 20 nations and cultures, Mars inspired literature and the names of hundreds of thousands of people. The DVD serves as a ‘message in a bottle’ to future Martian explorers.

Mr. Lomberg’s designs have given him the prestige of being the world’s most experienced artist in crafting and creating messages for other times and beings.
