Very soon Elysium Planitia, Mars, will be the home of NASA’s latest Martian exploratory mission: InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport).
Nov. 26, 2018, InSight is expected to land on the surface of Mars to begin its mission of giving the Red Planet its first in-depth ‘checkup’ since its formation 4.5 billion years ago.
InSight has two mission objectives: (1) investigating the formation and evolution of Mars to gain an understanding of how planets form within our solar system and (2) determining the tectonic activity of Mars and the rate of meteorite impacts on Mars.
The Robinson Family Aerospace Mission will be counting down the days until InSight reaches the surface of Mars on Nov. 26 at approximately 3:00 p.m. ET (12:00 p.m. PT).
